A front-closure bra moves its fastening between the cups rather than placing it behind the body. The obvious difference is how you put it on. The less obvious one is the freedom it creates across the back. [B02]
Without a central rear clasp, the design can use an uninterrupted panel, racerback or decorative arrangement.

Construction study
Front clasps may slide, click or rotate into place. Their shape occupies space normally associated with the gore, so a front-closing bra may fit differently from a superficially similar rear-closing one.
Read the instructions for the actual clasp. Check whether it can be operated comfortably without forcing it or twisting the surrounding fabric.
Dressing and accessibility
A front fastening may be useful when reaching behind the body is difficult or uncomfortable. It may also simply be your preference.
Different clasps require different kinds of finger movement. Front placement alone does not guarantee that every mechanism is easier to use. A fitting should include opening and closing the garment where practical.
Racerbacks and strap placement
Front closures pair naturally with backs that converge inward. That can help hide straps beneath certain tops and may suit someone who dislikes wider placement.
It also changes the route by which tension reaches the shoulders. A different back shape should be assessed as part of the whole bra rather than presumed more supportive or comfortable.
Check circumference adjustment
Many traditional hook-and-eye backs provide several positions. Some front clasps offer only one. Other front-closing designs include separate adjustment, so check rather than assume.
That difference can matter as changes through use or when a wearer needs a small circumference adjustment.
Before choosing
Inspect clasp instructions, strap adjustment, shape and the back's compatibility with your clothing. A decorative back can be an intended visible detail, but it may also be noticeable under a fine top.
Follow the care label and fasten or protect hardware as instructed. A damaged clasp should not be treated as secure merely because it can be forced shut.
