A bra usually covers less of the upper breast than a full- style. Exactly how much is not standardized, and a retailer's demi can resemble another retailer's .

The useful idea is coverage. Demi does not automatically mean padded, push-up, or underwired. [B02]

What makes a demi?

The upper cup finishes lower, opening more of the upper chest. placement and centre height vary. Cups may be formed or seamed, lined or unlined.

Those choices can create different silhouettes beneath the same broad description. A smooth demi may serve as an everyday foundation; a version may make the surface detail part of the appeal.

Demi versus balconette

Balconette more often emphasizes a broad, relatively horizontal opening with outward-set straps. Demi emphasizes reduced coverage. The two frequently overlap rather than forming a clean pair of opposites.

When comparing them, identify the actual cup edge, gore and strap attachment. A similar name does not promise a similar fit.

Demi versus full-cup

Here the distinction is easier to see. A full-cup bra encloses more of the breast; a demi leaves more of the upper area open. That may make the demi easier to conceal under a lower neckline.

A lower edge interacts with breast fullness differently. Cutting in or empty space at that edge can indicate a mismatch of shape or size, not a reason to conclude that the wearer is wrong for . [B03]

Styling and construction

A demi can be useful when a rises too high but a dramatically low is unnecessary. Consider the texture beneath clothing as well as the coverage. Lace or can remain visible through a fine fabric even when the cup edge is concealed.

Make a specific comparison

Notice what you like about a current bra, then change one characteristic at a time: upper coverage, cup material, strap position or centre height. That preserves useful information instead of treating every new purchase as a completely new experiment.

Care remains garment-specific. A delicate unlined demi and a foam-cup version need not be washed or stored in exactly the same way.
