A familiar size label can be reassuring, but it is not a complete description of a garment. A bra size combines two pieces of information. A letter-sized bralette groups several measurements into a range. A bodysuit may have its own chart altogether.
Treat each label as the manufacturer’s proposed starting point. Then read the chart, the construction and the available adjustment together.
Read the whole bra size
Do not separate a cup letter from its band number and treat it as a universal volume. Sister-sizing guidance exists precisely because band and cup labels work together. A nearby band change usually calls for an opposite cup-step change when the aim is to compare a similar . [F4]
This is also why saying that you “are a D cup” supplies less information than the complete band-and-cup label and the brand’s sizing system.
Check the sizing system before converting
UK, US and European labels do not always follow the same sequences, and retailers sometimes translate a manufacturer’s original sizing. Use the maker’s own conversion information rather than assuming a cup letter or number means the same thing everywhere.
Keep the original label in your notes when possible. “Brand, model, original sizing system, size, observations” is a more useful record than a converted size without context. We deliberately do not provide a universal conversion table here.
Letter sizing is a range
Small, medium and large do not specify separate band and cup dimensions. A bralette might match your torso circumference while leaving too little cup room, or contain your bust while feeling loose around the ribs.
Look for a size range that accounts for both measurements. A fuller-bust variation, separate cup options or a different construction may be more useful than moving up repeatedly in a standard letter-sized garment.
Read the return conditions before comparing
Keep tags and protective liners in place and follow the retailer’s fitting and hygiene rules. Some intimate products have restricted returns. The purpose of reading this before purchase is to make the comparison possible, not to encourage ordering indiscriminately.
Consider requesting a finished-garment measurement or construction detail when the chart leaves a specific question unanswered. A clear question about is more likely to help than “does this run small?”
Do not let a label finish the conversation
Two models in the same size can use different wires, seams, materials and strap placements. Wacoal explicitly acknowledges variation between brands and their fit expectations. [F6]
A different label does not mean your previous choice was a mistake. It may simply mean you are considering a different garment. Return to the fit itself before deciding what the number ought to be.
