Visible underwear lines can come from several places: an edge, a seam, surface decoration or the way a garment presses against a layer beneath it. The useful response depends on what you want the finished outfit to look like.
You do not have to remove every line. When a smoother result is the goal, start with the source of the interruption rather than buying the smallest possible brief.
Consider the edge
A waistband or leg opening can be more noticeable than the area of fabric it encloses. Compare a different cut, a flatter finish or an edge that meets the body at another position. That may be more comfortable than reducing coverage.
Avoid selecting underwear that feels too small simply to keep it in place. Check sitting and walking as well as the standing view. A smooth appearance that requires constant management has not solved the practical problem.
Look at texture above the bust
Embroidery and raised lace can be visible under close-fitting clothing. Smooth contour cups and bonding are among the construction approaches manufacturers use to reduce surface interruption. Wacoal describes these techniques in its anatomy guide. [D4]
They are options, not guarantees. The outer fabric and the bra’s fit still influence what you see. A smooth cup edge that stands away can be more obvious than a well-fitting seamed cup under a more substantial fabric.
Compare coverage instead of assuming
A thong may reduce rear edges beneath some clothing, but it is not the only option. A smooth brief, short or can produce a different result. Evaluate the combination that suits your preferences and the garment’s shape.
For a fitted skirt, for example, a half slip may address fabric movement in a way that changing briefs does not. For trousers, another seam position may be the more useful comparison.
Use ordinary lighting
Try the outfit under the light in which it will be worn when possible. Check front, side and back privately. A dark fitting room is not a reliable test of a pale, thin garment outdoors.
Do not use edited product photographs as a promise about or smoothness. The complete outfit in front of you provides better evidence.
Choose the least complicated solution
When the outfit looks and feels as you intended, stop adding layers. A should support the day, not turn it into repeated adjustments. Save a note of the combination so that getting dressed next time is easier.
